The ’96 vintage is often underestimated by journalists because of its unusual freshness for the region. However, during our tastings we were often able to taste some very great Châteauneufs from this harvest. Of course, these are wines from the best estates such as Henri Bonneau, Rayas and Beaucastel. The Beaucastel red 96 is fine and very elegant, now fully ripe it offers a bouquet of very beautiful complexity. It is a remarkable table companion, which is best paired with a poultry or a red-fleshed giber such as a pigeon, a semi-wild duck or a woodcock!
